RCIA - ASK/GIFT

RCIA/ASK

ASK is the name we give in our parish for the RCIA.

A – Ask and you will recieve

S – Seek and you will find

K – Knock and the door will be opened.

The RCIA is the worldwide rite through which adults are received into the Catholic Church.

It is not a program; it is a process.

So what’s the difference?

A program has a specific beginning and a specific date for an ending.

A process probably has a defined beginning, but its ending is not specific. RCIA is a process.

It is a time of reflection, prayer, instruction, discernment, and formation in a group under the direction of a team of catechists. There is no set timetable, and those who join the process are encouraged to take as much time as they need.

If the adults are already baptised in another faith they will become Candidates for Confirmation and First Holy Communion.

If they are not baptised they become Catechumens seeking baptism and Confirmation. During this time they attend mass regularly getting to know the community to which they want to belong but not yet receiving Holy Communion..

Each person will have a Catholic sponsor who will support them.
