In today’s Second Reading, I was struck by the words: “I am no longer trying for perfection by my own efforts.” As parents, I suppose we are always striving to do everything right, thinking that everyone else has cracked life. But really, we’re all just doing our best. Instead of struggling and failing to live up to our own or society’s idea of perfection, we should rather follow St. Paul by wanting “the perfection that comes through faith in Christ and is from God and based on faith”. Smiley Facebook statuses are just our edited highlights because we don’t want to show how broken we all are in some way. God doesn’t mind if we forgot the packed lunches (again!) or didn’t make that fancy dress costume from scratch – we need to aim for “the prize to which God calls us upwards to receive in Christ Jesus.” Now to take my own advice…!
